Do we have the time to change? Change takes energy and time, especially clinical software system change in the NHS. It should not be underestimated. Perhaps though, when we really need to change, it is at the very moment when we have not got the headspace, the resources or the emotional energy to do so.

Last week a prospective customer said “I would love to change to Eva, I’d love to use your software, but I just don’t have the time to change right now”. I understand. This clinician is supporting the biggest winter vaccination programme the NHS has ever seen. In the NHS, ‘winter’ can be chaotic at the best of times, and 2021 is certainly not the best of times. Everyone is already tired and stressed from what has been a tremendous 18 months. Realistically it was probably summer 2019 that was the last period of any calm in the NHS and that feels like a distant memory of a different life.

While I understand, it is also a shame. That same customer has been talking to us for the last three months and over the summer this story was similar, they just didn’t have the time to change.

So what can we do to give ourselves this time to change? Our software is reliable, fast and free for NHS GPs. Our pilot site said they were saving 20 second of admin time per jab. It has delivered over 100,000 vaccinations without a minute of downtime. Yet that’s not enough.

At Eva, we’ve been thinking very carefully about how we can help our customers to switch to our software. We’re thinking about making it as easy as possible. We have less than two hours of contact time (although more if that’s needed) before a customer is trained and set up as an admin on our system. Customers can start using the product at any time, day or night, on any day of the week. We help customers to go live at 9:30 in the morning on a Sunday, if that’s the best time for them. We send hardcopies of posters and branded purple balloons to help communicate to your staff that a change is coming, and guide them to who they can talk to about it. We give them extra tools and tips and we try to broadcast what we know when we know it from the central bodies, just in case some NHS messages get lost in transit.

There may never be a good time to change. There may never feel like a quiet moment that’s just right. Sometimes though, the payback is worth it and now may be as good a time as any to change. The whole Eva team is here to help you when you are ready to change.
